Relay For Life

The Relay For Life theme this year was "Celebrating More Birthdays." I will admit, it was hard for me to get fired up about it and felt the theme was a little hard to swallow for obvious reasons. I wasn't even sure if I was going to go. But Amy is amazingly strong and continues to be passionate about cancer research. She even went to a few planning meetings and sat there and sang happy birthday to cancer survivors that were present. My mom's youth group at church does a team so Team Rachel was mainly represented by them. Amy skipped the part of relay where the survivors and their caregivers walk a lap at the beginning. It was always emotional when Rachel was alive so even more so with her gone. I wish I would have skipped that part too. I cried like a baby when I saw a "Miss October" shirt because I made Rach a onesie when she was born with "Miss October" written across the front in rhinestones. But I'm a baby and a crier and I felt on the verge of tears the whole time. I left early needless to say. Now miss Callie had a great time and became fast friends with the youth group. She loved racing on the track "mart, set, go!"
Callie's friend Taylor stopped by.
And Liberty from daycare. She went on a few wagon rides and they were hilarious racing around the track and chasing each other.
Cade had fun too but he crashed early.
At one point in the night, all the lights go down, the crowd goes silent, and luminarias are lit for those that have passed from cancer. Callie helped me through that though because while the whole place was silent, she was yelling "I go bye bye in minute" and loudly singing her ABCs. She is like Shane, she has to fill the silence. I hope to be a better participant next year in Relay For Life because cancer research is important to me too!

Morgan's Wonderland

Cade had a field trip yesterday to Morgan's Wonderland in San Antonio. I could not get off work :( but Cade's Grandpa went with him (because it is strongly encouraged he have his own chaperone and of course I understand why!) I can't recall a single field trip that my Dad took with us but Cade is his boy and he would do anything for him. Thanks Dad, you really are the best. For those of you that don't know, Morgan's wonderland is a 25 acre park entirely dedicated to special needs children and adults. It is the first of it's kind and we are so lucky to live so close and have this unique, amazing place available for Cade.
The park's staff is 90% volunteers.
My Dad said Cade had a great time. There was so much to do and Cade just ran from place to place to explore. Here is my baby spreading his wings...

What a wonderful place! I'm sure Cade will be back soon!

Family Pictures!

We took professional family pictures with both the Akins and the Krugs over Easter weekend. With the Akins, we took them at Heirloom and they always do a fabulous job. They are so creative! Our pics were in the wildflowers in Stockdale and they turned out really good. The link to see them is...

With my family, we had Miranda Laine take them. I have been admiring Miranda's pictures for awhile and this was her first time to do ours. She came to my parent's house and she did a great job! It is not easy to deal with so many people and especially 1 sick adult that acts like a baby and 4 other babies and about 5 grumbling men. I was impressed with her patience and she still got some really good shots. She has sent us a few previews and I can't wait to see more! I'm going to have to get a second job just to buy all the pics I want!

Cade's Other School

Cade gets out of school at 10:45 and then we take him to an in-home daycare. The kids at this daycare are all a little younger than Cade. They are fascinated by him and all the little girls love taking care of him. When we walk in they all start yelling "did Cade have his water yet?" and "Can we help you give Cade his water?" So we do the water...and then they always ask "why does he have his tube?" and now some of the other kids answer for me "It's because his mouth is broke." His teachers say the kids all freak out when he has a sip of water because his mouth is broke and he is not supposed to! They are too cute!

Grandpa, Cade, and The Bus

Cade is all about routines. He functions so well in a structured environment. Every school morning is almost the exact same for Cade. He wakes up, we get dressed, go to Grandpa's for breakfast and milk, and then Grandpa almost always puts Cade on the bus. Here they are sitting on their rock...
You be a good boy at school Cade...
Watch how this plays out....
He changed his mind at the last minute.
He loves it. In fact, he brings me his back pack every weekend and I have to break the news that he won't be going to school today.

Good Morning Callie

She says "good morning" now and I think it is so cute. Here she is feeling a little sick but still looking adorable...

And Let Us Not Forget Why...

He is Risen! Happy Easter To All!!!

Gone But Not Forgotten

We were definitely feeling the loss of Rachel this weekend. There was an emptiness that persisted through the day. We spent some time at the cemetery. Who wants to spend their holidays at a cemetery? But I can understand now why people do this because you miss them so much, it feels like its the only place you can go to see them. I think of all the kids, Callie is starting to put some pieces together about Rachel. Every time we drive by the cemetery she yells and points to Rachel and says she is "Up up up".
Amy is very particular about Rachel's flower arrangements. For Easter, the kids helped to make this egg tree. It looked a little rough but we know Rachel would have loved it.

I know it is disrespectful for the kids to run around yelling and squealing in a cemetery but I could just hear Rachel laughing with them and I am certain she was enjoying it.
And my favorite pictures from Easter last year were these. I smile when I see her pictures and I'm crying in the next second. We really miss her.

Bluebonnets!

The wildflowers have been gorgeous this year! We made a last minute decision to go take some pics on Easter. My kids were so distracted by everyone. We may have to do this again.
